Beware of investment scams with unknown links and fake apps
Fraudsters may pose as investment experts to offer insider news and promise low risk and high returns, then lure you to join online investment groups, install fake investment apps and open accounts on fake investment website to make investment. At first, fraudsters may give small returns or falsify profit records to trick you into investing more. After obtaining the money, they will reject your withdrawals with various excuses, and even disappear. Beware of scams, you can check the "list of suspicious virtual asset trading platforms" and "public register of licensed persons and registered institutions" of SFC (sfc.hk) to identify suspicious investment apps and websites.
Beware of phone scams by fake online shopping platforms staff
Fraudsters may pose as staff members of online shopping platforms, claim that you've signed up for a VIP membership and charge fees from your bank account. If you request to cancel the membership, they'll connect you to a fake bank hotline and trick you into disclosing your bank account details. Fraudsters may also ask you to transfer money to a specific bank account, otherwise your account will be frozen due to suspicious activity. Please be cautious and don't hastily send money or disclose personal information to unknown callers. Make sure to verify the caller's identity by cross-checking their phone numbers with the details on the platforms' official websites.
